| Conclusion | CHD is associated with increased risk of both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes in childhood. Children with complex CHD who require cardiac surgery are at the highest risk of stroke, and this risk remains elevated beyond the immediate postoperative period. Our study adds to the increasing weight of evidence that research to optimize perioperative and long-term stroke prevention in children with complex CHD is needed. |
